Jules-Henry Malaki - Makiyaj / Tes idées

France 1x12" / 45 RPM / Maxi-Single

A1 - Makiyaj

B1 - Tes Idées (edit)

Following the success of the Retro-Zouk mixtapes series (4 volumes / 15k plays on Soundcloud), Secousse Radio proudly presents its first official vinyl reissue of a long lost Zouk banger. Originally released in 1993-1994, those two tracks have been road-tested in various clubs and parties for months and the feedback is clear: it’s dancefloor devastation business. Their author is Jules Henri Malaki, an established and self-produced artist from Guadeloupe, a French overseas island in the Southern Caribbean Sea.

The selectors Julien Achard and Nicolas Skliris continue the excavation of French Antillas vinyl from the 80’s and the 90’s and for this second volume, they found some really exciting new references which should be soon « classics » on the dancefloors.

The return of the most important French Antillean band of the 60’s and the 70’s. They bring a unique mix of Biguine, funk, Latin, Compas and early Zouk. Tip! Camille Sopran’n, who founded the band with guitarist Guy Jacquet and bassist Pierre-Edouard Décimus, personally selected this compilation from the Vikings’ vast discography of about 20 albums, starting in 1967. They obviously inherited a lot from “roots music” (Gwo Ka), jazz and the beguine that had been played on the island since the late 19th century, and of which they give a dazzlingly modern version on “Tou Touni”

For their first release of 2017 and third edition of the series, the Parisian crew, Discomatin, dug harder than ever to propose edits still in the spirit of the afterparty they organize. The EP is composed by four tracks, finely picked and slightly edited by the DJs of the crew. They cover a wide range of genres, from French boogie, to cosmic disco, through West-Indies or new-wave influenced lyrics. There is definitely something for all tastes on this EP. It’s fresh, it’s French, so don’t sleep on it!

Andi Hanley - RK #13

UK 2x12" / White Label

Downtempo Synth-pop Zouk

A - Raffles

B - Ba Nou

C - Syn-Syn

D - Kinshasa

Fresh from an appearance on Balearic Blah Blah, Andi Hanley sidles over to fellow Mancunian Ruf Dug's Ruf Kutz label with some beautiful, sunkissed tones in mind to keep you gliding on the good vibes no matter how grim it may be outside. "Raffles" is a gently pattering piece that seems to hark from the Terry Riley school of repetition, albeit played through blocky synth tones and delicate refrains. "Ba Nou" is a more flamboyant 80s-flavoured cut with some excellent tom fills, slick guitar licks and powerful brass stabs. "Syn-Syn" is a melancholic, borderline noirish synth ballad, and "Kinshasa" heads for the dancefloor with its pronounced beat and canned funk sound.

Riccardo Schirò - Mediterranea

1x12" / Mini-Album

Zouk House Ambient

A1 - Cashmere Complex

A2 - Mediterraneanism

A3 - Gibraltar Silhouette

B1 - El Bahira

B2 - Viva Voce

B3 - Onde Radio

Following hot on the heels of the Lamusa II single, Gravity Graffiti keep up their mission into imagined exotic terrain apace with this transmission from Riccardo Schiro. The Italian producer has previously been aligned with the Mystic Jungle Tribe posse, so you know that his credentials in creating rich, synthesiser led music are to be trusted. There's an aquatic delicacy about Mediterranea, not least on lead track "Cashmere Complex", while you can also find some shimmering island boogie on "Mediterraneanism". Forget Balearic - this record is sailing out to an unknown sun-baked archipelago somewhere between the Aeolian islands and the infinite reaches of outer space.
